Anyone done Dinners Ready?

I'm thinking about trying this as we get into the Holiday season as I seem to be a little short on time and not eating very well. Has anyone tried it? I've seen the prices and menus but is the food any good?

Re: Anyone done Dinners Ready?

  • My cousin uses it for her family 2-3 times a week. I've actually had it before and thought it was yummy. The only thing that I thought was gross was the zesty lemon chicken or something like that.

  • yeah I've done it quite a bit.  I dont' go and prepare it though - it's worth the extra to just get them to fix it all for you.  :)

I think the food is good.   We switched recently (well, over the summer maybe?) to Month of Meals in Redmond.  I think their food is better in general, but maybe a little more expensive.   oh but I see you're in Maple Valley... try Dinners Ready - Redmond would be a haul for you.  :)

  • I agree with you completely! We always seem to eat so crappy and I never have the time or energy to plan! (although I am getting better!) my friend approached me with the idea of doing "Meal Swaps" we sent out an email to some of our friends to join us too! We'll gtg once a month (or whatever you choose) and you bring a frozen meal for everyone in your group. So say there are 6 people in your group, you bring 6 of the same meals and swap! There are forms to fill out so you can determine if anyone has any allergies, likes or dislikes, set a budget and a constant time to gtg, I had no idea there were so many little groups that do this! It may be something to consider, and it would be a chance to see your girlfriends!!

  • My best friends gave me a gift certificate for the baby shower.  I haven't used it yet (saving it for FT back to work), but it has to be better than a 0-3 onsie that he outgrew in a week!
  • We got a week of meals from there when Syd was born as a gift from DHs coworkers. I have to say - as far as a time saving measure I was a little disappointed. They're decent meals and the prep work is all done for you but it still seemed to me like they took just as much time and effort to cook as making meals from scratch. The portions were too small for my DH too (he has a hollow leg though).
  • We used to do Designed Dinner (same concept).  I was really happy with the quality of the food.  We used to make a party of it, getting 5-10 people together for the session.  They provided wine and music, and we had a blast.

I probably did it 8 times over the period of a year.  Some of the selections got a little redundant, but it was mostly because the same sort of things would sound good to me from each menu.

  • It's ok, but I found that it didn't save us a lot of time. Many of the meals take 20-30 mins of prep time! If I'm going to prep for that long, I might as well just make it myself. If you're very careful to only buy casserole types of foods, you do just have to throw it in the oven and bake, and they are not bad. But, if you do it fairly often, you get REALLY tired of the meals. We did it for a few months when I was pregnant, and none of us ever want it again lol.

I found that Month of Meals in Redmond had better food and more variety. Also, their serving sizes were more consistent. Dinners Ready servings sizes were all over the board. Sometimes we had tons of food, sometimes not enough.

  • We've done Dream Dinners and Designed Dinners.  Of the two, I far prefer the Dream Dinners.  The meals are more complex in flavors and not something I could just throw together.  They also usually have some vegetables with them - chicken mirabella, chicken enchiladas, moroccan pumpkin chicken.  the Designed Dins were good, but more simple - roasts, pesto shrimp, chicken marsala.
After three years TTC, four IUI's plus 2 cancelled, MFI (morph, motility, count), maternal age (40 as of 5/12) & former endo, we're moving to IVF spring 2012 (good/avg AMH and FSH). We did beat the odds once, however. DD born after 2 years TTC with clomid and no monitoring at my age 35. Doctors are SHOCKED we were able to conceive. Here's hoping for another miracle.
