Hi there! Thank you in advance for your honest opinions.
How would you pronounce Nilah? I have a feeling most, if not all, will say N-eye-la. We are trying to go for N-ee-la, but I don't really like that spelling. I'm also a little worried that it may be too unique.
We are also considering Ada, pronounced Aid-a. We are definitely having trouble coming up with names we both like!
Re: Newbie needs help! How would you pronounce Nilah?
I first sight I said Knee-lah but I agree that you'll hear Ny-lah a lot
Ada is A-duh but again you'll hear Addah a lot too.
Ny-la.
If you want Nee-la, spell it Neela.
Me too
Neila / Neela is the name we like, but the spellings seem a little masculine to me.
Me too
Yep me too. I would assume it rhymes with Lilah.

I don't take one single minute for granted.
I would pronounce your spelling Ny-la.
Neila / Neela doesn't look masculine to me at all... any names that end in "a" scream GIRL to me.
I would pronounce it Ny-lah.
But I absolutely love Ada!! It is DH and my top girl pick!

yup, me too
I think this is why I see knee-la. It's like Mila (Kunis) just with an h on the end. I was thinking Nilah or Nila. So, if people think of Mila they will pronounce it the intended way; if they think of Lila, they will not.
Thanks ladies.
I pronounced it Ny-lah (rhymes with Lyla/Lila).
For what it is worth, I much prefer Ada. Cute name!

I'd pronounce it Ny-lah. Reminds me of Nala from the Lion King (we had a hamster named Nila around that time from mis-hearing the name).
Do you like Mila? It would probably face the same issue to some degree, but is more familiar thanks to Mila Kunis.
I love Ada (my favorite character from the Poisonwood Bible).
