Has anyone else's LO had croup?? LO just got diagnosed today with it. He woke up last night with the absolute worst cough that was so dry and he just cried every time he had to cough. It was so sad! We went to the doctor's today and they diagnosed him with it and we gave him a couple drops of steroids today and they also gave us some homeopathic drops to give him tomorrow. I feel so bad for him, he is miserable! He is usually such a happy baby but today he hardly smiled and his sad little cough just makes my heart melt. Anyone else? Is this really common? The doctor didn't give us much info, I was just shocked that's what he really had!
Re: Croup?
yes its very common. My oldest ds had it when he was 1. It sounds so awful.
You can take them in the bathroom and sit with the water running as hot as possible to let the steam help open his airways. He should be feeling better within 2 days.
But he will probably get a touch worse before he gets better, just so you know.
It takes time for the steroids to get working.
hugs! Its really hard to watch the like that!!
Oh yah the doctor said steam in the bathroom too, I will try that tomorrow. I hope it doesn't get worse. I keep grabbing him out of his room and pulling him into our bed and I feel like that helps (probably helps me more than him!
)
p.s. your 2 boys are soooo adorable!!
nah its always good to snuggle with him when they are sick! I like having my close especially if he's running a fever so I can keep an eye on it.
Hope he's better soon!
thanks!!
DD had croup at the end of September. We ended up in the ER to get the steroid as she had bad stridor.
Aside from the medicine (the steroid was all we gave her except for some motrin to help with fever/pain), what helped best was the cold night air (though, we live in Denver and not Florida!).
She was through it about 24 hours after getting the first steroid dose.
