Cloth Diapering

wet bag or pail or both?

Greetings Ladies,

I am due with my first baby in December!

Just curious what is the best option for for dirty diapers: (I really want to cut down on the smell)

regular diaper pail with disposable bags

regular diaper pail with wet bag liner

just a wet bag

Thanks in advance for your feedback!!

Re: wet bag or pail or both?

  • We started out with just wetbags, but as his diapers got bigger we needed something to hold more diapers. Now we use a Planetwise pail liner in a garbage can, and I keep the wetbag in the bathroom for poopy diapers (so I don't have to carry it back to the nursery), but you don't really need to worry about that until your baby starts solids.

  • pail liners are better when we're home but for going to other places, we need wetbags.  So we keep both.

Same here. I would steer away from a true diaper pail, too. IMHO, they're overpriced as the cheap swing top trash can works great. Between it and washing every other Fay, we don't have stink issues. I've always heard that you want something that will breathe to cut down on stink, which is a bit counter-intuitive.

This is a great idea.  I've been looking for a solution since C started solids that didn't involve me ringing out a rinsed diaper and taking it back to his room dripping to the wet bag!  Don't know why I didn't think of it on my own...

  • We have a regular trash can with a pail liner, no lid. I wash her diapers every other day. We use a wet bag when  we're out so that the dirty diapers don't come in contact with anything else in our diaper backpack.

  • We do a plastic trash can with a pail liner.

I'm not sure why you would want to use a trash bag to line the can?

  • Oh, and since it's not clear from you're OP what you mean about a diaper pail - You want to steer clear of the diaper genie, etc.  They're too air tight and make your diapers stinky.
