What did you think? I just had my nt scan there and the buildings were pretty thread bare. I am wondering if we should drive a little farther to a nicer facility? What do you. Think?
I delivered both of my kids there, 2 c-sections, so I was there for a few days.
With my son, the rooms were shared, can't say it was a great experience.
With my daughter, they started the private rooms, it was wonderful! The nurses were great, my husband had a fold out couch to sleep on, the food was pretty good too.
It is an older building, but everything inside is pretty modern.
I didn't deliver at Santa Teresa but had went there for appts for more than the first half of my pregnancy with Lilly. I ended up switching to Santa Clara Kaiser and delivering there and my only reason for that really was Santa Clara Kaiser has a NICU and if Lilly needed it (and I had no reason to think she would...full term, no issues during pregnancy, etc.), we would already be at the hospital that had the NICU. If we delivered at Santa Teresa and she needed the NICU they would need to transfer her there....I decided that I'd rather already be there so she could get the care ASAP. And it ended up to be the best decision as Lilly did need to be in the NICU....she had an infection and some breathing issues.
Santa Teresa was totally fine for my appts and everything and they do even have 1 labor room that has a tub which is super nice and I wish Santa Clara had that. Just thought I'd share my reason for switching to Santa Clara Kaiser.

I delivered there and it was a wonderful experience. We had amazing nurses and doctors and it was perfect for us.
That said, I did look into switching to Kaiser Santa Clara due to them having a NICU but after speaking at length with L&D and my own doctor I decided to stay with San Jose/Santa Teresa because they have a really good plan in place and frankly they can care for virtually anything there, but for longer than a day or two they would transfer.
I had appointments at both SC and SJ throughout my pregnancy because I saw a perinatologist as well as my regular OB and NP and I did have complications throughout my pregnancy and I still felt confident using SJ. Best experience. I have been with friends who have delivered at some of the other hospitals in the area and they are all pretty much nice and offer virtually the same things but you have to find what is right for you.
Oh and, L&D is far from shabby or rundown. My delivery room was HUGE (seriously they managed to have 4 staff plus 4 of my family members come in after EJ was born and people were not tripping on each other). The M&B was just as nice, private, very large room, with a pull out couch and a recliner. it was great. They also do a special dinner for you and DH one evening. It is really sweet.
Love love love it. It isn't as popular so I felt like I was getting more personal attention. They have midwives and I really wanted that. With my most recent delivery my midwife was with us almost the whole time and really helped me to go pain med free.
I love hearing about your expirences. We have has all our appointments at the gilroy clinic so far. I love my ob by the way. I did. Have my round 1 nt scan at Santa Teresa but it was the day after mil was admitted and both DD and I were having an off day. So the facility probably did not make a good impression as a result.
I delivered there for an emergency c-section even though the intention was always to deliver at Santa Clara. Simply put the doctors saved my life and the staff was amazing. I had my own private room and an awesome nurse. It also helped that our delivery nurse was my parents neighbor of 20 years so she made sure that my family was able to feed my daughter and stay in the newborn area with no problems.
