We're expecting LO in Jan, and I'm hoping to do CD at least while I'm on maternity leave (SO isn't thrilled about CD, so I've convinced him that it'll be temporary... or so he thinks... sneaky mama!) We already have a bunch of prefolds that were used as burpies with SO's son, but no covers. Has anyone sewn their own? Do you have good links to free patterns, or even patterns to buy that you've loved?

Re: Diaper Cover Pattern?
OMG. I couldn't find snap pliers that cheap anywhere. I just paid someone to convert all my diapers. I had no idea they sold this stuff... pretty cool!
Too funny! This is actually what got me on my 'I should make my own diaper covers!' kick... the problem is that they are sold out of the book! I think it's too soon for it to be on eBay too... darn.

keep in mind that you get what you pay for. I haven't heard good reviews of their pliars, you'd be better off getting a set from KAMsnaps.com
This. I've heard a lot of reports of the pliers breaking. And the snaps breaking/not working, too. And the snaps are SUPER expensive.
For cover patterns, I've made covers out of the Darling Diapers Unlimited pattern before, and they turned out great. It even has directions for doing it. It's a paid pattern (about $12, I think) but it is an excellent place to start if you're just starting out with sewing diapers. Highly recommended.
A couple of DDU covers:

Really, though, you can turn most diaper patterns into covers with just slight modifications. After all, diapers and covers have the same basic shape
