Not sure if you remember me, but I am the one whose DD is still using the Woombie also! I have to say, you have gotten farther than me, because it has been months since I have even attempted to try to put her down without it. She still has it for nights and both naps. I just need to bite the bullet and do it. She is almost 9 months old, and will likely be walking within a month. Seems crazy that she is still restrained for sleep!
Anyhow, how goes it for you? Ace still using it? What are your plans? And when did you last try to get rid of it?
I even feel like she is too big for a sleep sack, since she will have her legs restrained in that. (We have the Woombie with the feet in it, so her legs are "free".) Anyhow, I did Ferber a few weeks ago, and should have just gotten rid of it then, but I am a wuss. I didn't even try. Right now she has a fever virus, so I am not going to attempt it til she is 100%. I think I will vow to get rid of it by 9 months. It will take Ferber to do it, but I am ok with that. Maybe it will be easier than I expect!
Blah blah, sorry for the long post!
Re: ***rmm17***
Hi! We have had some pretty good success (finally!). We did do some modified ferber a few weeks ago and then tackled the woombie. I also vowed to be rid of the woombie by 9 months! We started working on it last week and he's done really well. We have the convertible woombie which has helped with the transition. I started by rocking/nursing him like i usually do. Once he was really calm i would take 1 arm out. I also gave him a stuffed animal to hold and that helped with the wild flailing arm. Once he was really sleepy (or asleep...i figured that we could get out of the wooombie and then retrain him to fall asleep on his own) i put him down. We did this for 2 weeks before moving on to the 2nd arm. He is still technically in the woombie but with both arms out (like a sleep sack). He has started waking less now because he likes to sleep on his belly. I also found that he likes to play with his ears when he is falling asleep.
Also, i hadn't tried to put him down without it for months either and i was SCARED! i realized that maybe he was more ready than i expected. Maybe your LO will be the same.
Since you don't have a convertible woombie, can you gradually unzip the woombie? We tried that for a while before putting his arm out. After he was almost asleep in our arms we would unzip 2 inches. After that went well, maybe 3 inches, 4 inches etc? Let me know what you think, if you have any questions, and how it goes!
