Thoughts on the name Declan?

Just wondering if this is a "trendy" name or if the general thoughts are negative about it.  I like it, but may be the only one-not sure since I don't hear it often.

I like Declan.

It's part of the whole Irish name trend going on right now, but that doesn't make it negative-trendy. It's just a good name that's getting revived because people are currently into Irish names.

I've never heard it in real life (and I was an elementary school teacher until last year), but it comes up on these boards all the time and people seem to love it.  It's just gets a big *meh* from me.  Nms, but you could do a lot worse.

It's near the top of my list for future children, although I'm worried that it would sound weird with our last name. We have a VERY Irish last name. I honestly hope it doesn't get too popular, because I don't want to use an extremely popular name.

I agree with this.  I don't know if it is trendy in and of itself, just that it is part of the Irish names trend.  I'm sort of indifferent to it, but it is a perfectly fine name.

I like Declan a lot. I don't think it's trendy necessarily, or at least not in a negative way. I agree with a pp that people are just liking Irish names right now. It's got a long history and is a great name.

I really like the name. With that said, I have been hearing it more and more here on the east coast. So to me, it seems to be heading towards the ''trendy'' catagory.

The only issue I have with this name is that it is very Irish, and I know couples who are not Irish at all (one couple is Italian and Asian) who used the name. To me, I feel like very ethnic/cultural/what-have-you names are best when you have that background.

It's a great name with a long history but it seems to have jumped on the trendy band wagon lately and I think it will shoot up in popularity.  Not a bad thing, I would totally use it if not for my worry it could get more and more popular.  Any name that people are already using for trashy girl names, I avoid. i.e. Deklyn, Declynn, etc. YUK!

It's a good, classic Irish name. I like it, I have a few Irish relatives with this name, so it is somewhat normal to me.

I like it.  The first time I heard it was about 4-5 years ago when I used to watch that show Kyle XY on the ABC Family Channel.  One of the main character's boyfriends was named Declan.

I know 4 children under the age of 2 named Declan. So it seems to be getting very popular around me. I think I am in the minority, but I don't care for it.

It seems like I see it on here a lot lately, so I guess I would call it somewhat trendy.  I personally find it sort of difficult to say, it is awkward when I say it.  I wouldn't personally use it, but it's a nice name all in all.

I had no idea irish names were becomming trendy. As a Murphy I wanted to give my son an irish name, but I'm not sure how I feel about being part of a rising trend.

I like it. But I do relate it to the character on Degrassi. Not that that's a bad thing!

I think it's cute.  I had a boy last year named Decklynn and I thought it looked too feminine..  (I'm a teacher)

Just posted about this name yesterday! It got really positive thoughts. I don't think it is trendy at all. I am pretty set on it for my next baby. I think it is such a nice name.

I'm naming my son Declan in March. It was the only boy name I chose and I knew it was the one. I'm a FTM. My family is split on the name, but I don't care. I don't think it's trendy at all. Who wants to have a popular name anyways? I love the name no question.
