false positive / false negative

Can you explain false negative and false positive?  which one is what.. 

I think i've been using them wrong.. 

is it...

false negative = negative result but it should be positive.
false positive = positive result but it should be negative.

 

or am i completely wrong?  i think i've been saying false negative each time it should be false positive
