Re: Just started collecting books!
The Sandra Boynton board books are great: Moo, Baa, La La La, The Going to Bed Book, But Not the Hippopotamus. DS loved them so much that we ended up needing to replace a couple.
Some other favorites of ours:
Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?
Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb
Goodnight Moon
I'll Always Love You
Wacky Wednesday
The B Book
Oh, the Places You'll Go

My MIL who lives out of state got DS Goodnight Moon. It's the one where she was able to record herself reading it so he gets to hear her voice every night before he goes to sleep. It is by far his favorite. I definitely recommend these if you have grandparents or other family who will not get to see LO often.
I'm a FTM, but these are my musts...
- Very Hungry Caterpillar
- Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See
- Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You See
- Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What Do You See
- Goodnight Moon
- Are You My Mother?
- Big Dog...Little Dog
- And any books on dogs I can find
Sandra Boynton....Belly Button Book, Hey Wake Up!, The Going to Bed Book, Opposites, Horns to Toes, But Not the Hippopotamus, and Hippos Go Beserk. The Little Pookie books are obnoxious.
Dr. Seuss....The Lorax and both Horton books are DS' favorites but he likes most of them.
Eric Carle...The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Brown Bear Brown Bear, 1,2,3 to the Zoo (not my favorite but DS likes to count the animals), and From Head to Toe.
The monster at the end of this book
The Giving Tree
A Mother For Choco
Over in the Meadow
love is for every her, love is for every him, love is for everyone
I am a FTM too and I think my mom is going to suggest people bring a book instead of a card witht heir shower gift. It will be fun to collect books and to see what people bring as their favorites...

I havent started to collect yet because at my babyshower my sister asked everyone to please bring their favorite childrens book in place of a card, so i am waiting to see what we get for LO then.
However- i love the little critter books
so i am hoping i get them.. if not thoes will be the first on my list to buy
My answer is rather unfair as I've taught for ten years everywhere from 2nd grade to 4th grade so I have books on every level from Kindergarten to 7th grade. I have them sorted in our basement by book level and have been getting them out as needed for DHs 7 year old daughter and will do the same for new baby. I don't have many for little little ones, though for me to read though so I will definitely watch this post and see what other moms are getting.
Hmmmmmm...... You know I like the thought of books as gifts from family but I think I'll save that suggestion for Christmas/birthday gifts. Still need to get all the essentials for baby from the shower :-)
I LOVE books, I have a collection of childrens books for my nephew and now starting one for our daughter almost brings me to tears! I love dr. suess for the hidden messages within and kids love the rhyming, brown bear brown bear is a favorite as well. I just cant wait to start reading them to LO!
