  • My MIL who lives out of state got DS Goodnight Moon. It's the one where she was able to record herself reading it so he gets to hear her voice every night before he goes to sleep. It is by far his favorite. I definitely recommend these if you have grandparents or other family who will not get to see LO often.

  • Kate's first book was also Goodnight Moon. It came bundled with a onesie that said "Future Reader" on it. All 3 of us read like maniacs, so we had to buy her the onesie/book combo!

  • My answer is rather unfair as I've taught for ten years everywhere from 2nd grade to 4th grade so I have books on every level from Kindergarten to 7th grade.  I have them sorted in our basement by book level and have been getting them out as needed for DHs 7 year old daughter and will do the same for new baby.  I don't have many for little little ones, though for me to read though so I will definitely watch this post and see what other moms are getting.

  • My step daughter has a great book called The Rhyming Dust Bunnies.  It is the first book she learned to read.  And it is entertaining for adults too.

  • Hmmmmmm...... You know I like the thought of books as gifts from family but I think I'll save that suggestion for Christmas/birthday gifts. Still need to get all the essentials for baby from the shower :-)

Devil Ohhhhhhhh...... books instead of loud noisy colorful toys that annoy the crap out of me...... soooooooooooo suggesting this as gifts later on :))

  • Last time I was home (my Dad's house, that is) I grabbed books from my childhood. My grandmother was a librarian, so I got books--often signed by the author--for every holiday and birthday. A lot of the books are from when my dad was a child, too. I have tons right now... We won't need books for a long time!

  • The Sandra Boynton books are super cute! I guess I have some 'classics' but we've also got a bunch of random books. I definitely recommend checking out thrift stores for books or yard sales! You can find some pretty awesome deals on kid books.
