We took J in for his testing and B for his first visit yesterday. The labs come back on Thursday so we'll know more then.
We noticed at just a few weeks old that B was breaking out all over in eczmea (just like our oldest DS). I pulled milk and eggs from my diet and that seemed to fix it. When I've slipped up and accidentaly had milk- he gets an almost immediate rash. The allergist only skin tested him for eggs, milk, and wheat (we thought we saw a reaction there too).
I asked about testing for the rest of the top 8 and our allergist said he strongly reccomended that we not test for them. He was very concerned that we'd get a lot of false positives and he doesn't want us to have another kid with a laundry list of allergies if it isn't necessary. He went on and on about the reliabilty of the tests etc. I pointed out that when we brough J in for his first visit- we tested for the top 8, environmental etc. I always thought that was standard. Aparently J's skin was so severe and we were so lost on any possible causes that he warranted the full work up. I then asked about false positives for J (his egg score is a 33 but he's never actually had them other than through breastmilk). Dr. said it's possible that his score was a false positive but because he was skin + and a high RAST number we're going to rule on the side of caution and wait for the number to come down before testing.
I'm terrified of the unknowns as we start B on more solid food but our allergist gave us some good direction there as well. Milk and eggs came back positive and wheat negative so far (waiting on his RAST results). The allergist told us to give only one food per week, we'll keep a food diary and if we see an eczema reaction we are to wait a week and try again. He told us that because our kiddos have sensitive systems already and sensitive skin that an eczema reaction alone is not enough to declare something an allergy. It could easily be a coincidence. If we get an eczema reaction to a food more than once- put it on our allregy list and we'll test for it at B's follow up in 6 months. We have his Benedrly dosage and we go from here.
If J's numbers come down enough that we are eligible for a food challenge- there's a one year wait. If that's the case- our pediatrician is going to try and help us find a new allergist that does them in-office so we don't have to wait to get into the hospital clinic for them.
So- 2 kids with allergies and it doesn't look like we're gaining back any foods for at least a year
Re: now we have 2 allergic kiddos
I'm so sorry!
I can't even imagine. I hope J start to outgrow some so you get some relief!

honestly- while I'm obviously upset that we are dealing with allergies again- this time around doesn't seem nearly as scary. Maybe because we know what is safe/unsafe this time and aren't starting from scratch.
And DH and I were both relieved that at least (for now)- B isn't allergic to any of J's safe foods. That would have set me over the edge. And we figure that if they don't outgrow this stuff- at least they'll have an allergy buddy with each other.
