DD was just diagnosed with rice, green pea and tree nut allergies. If yours is allergic to green pea, do you avoid all legumes? She was not allergic to soy or green beans. If they are allergic to tree nuts, do you avoid peanuts as well? I was able to find lots of info about tree nuts, but none on rice or peas. The allergist said to watch for reactions, but I would rather not see one.
Thanks for your help!

Re: multiple food allergy question
my son is severely allergic to peanuts but he can have tree nuts. We've only given him almonds so far. For some reason I'm scared of all others. It is safer to avoid both though b/c of cross contamination. We're pretty much taking a risk.
peanuts are in the bean family. But that doesn't mean if he's allergic to peanuts, he's automatically allergic to beans. You can also be allergic to a type of bean (not all beans).
you can also be allergic to one specific tree nut and not all tree nuts. it's so darn confusing!
I read somewhere once that if you're allergic to peanuts, you have a bigger chance of being allergic to soy.
a rice allergy is pretty uncommon, but there are a few mamas on here who are dealing with it. I think miller was one of them but i think her DD outgrew it. (where is miller!?)..
What are her levels? did she have a RAST test or a skin test?
A peanut is a legume. My DD cannot handle soy, peas or beans, but can handle peanut. The trouble with peanuts, if you want to trial your child on them, is that I've not yet found a brand that isn't cross-contaminated by tree nuts. You'd have to do straight peanut butter, and read labels carefully.
Unfortunately, food trials are the most accurate test of whether the body can handle specific foods. With both my kids, we've kept very detailed journals, introducing a single-ingredient food for about a week (or until a reaction). And kept their diets very regimented so that we were not dealing with more than one unknown at a time. Not all reactions are due to IgE allergies (the kind your DD has been tested for), so even though she tested negative to a lot of things, she could still show a reaction when given that food. Hang in there - this can be a rough road to walk, but you'll get through it!
I don't think you can get levels from a skin test. You can only get it from a RAST test.. and a skin test has a lot of false negatives. And i would never be satisfied with the answer "i don't believe she would have an anaphylaxis reaction" it's a life or death situation and i would want to know for sure how severe the allergy is.
Is this your LO's pedi or an allergist? I would request a RAST test asap. Just in case you need an epipen. it's possible to be severely allergic to peas but mildly to nuts. It can go either way. I would want to know.
My son has a severe allergy to eggs and peanuts and a medium one to dairy and a mild one to soy... A friend has a DD with a mild tree nut allergy and a severe dairy allergy.. Knowledge is everything in this situation. I would get a RAST test.
