I was 40 weeks 10/16/2011 and at my OB apt on 10/14/2011 my cervix had not changed at all in 3 weeks, I was showing no signs of labor and for other reasons we decided to induce on Sunday (my due date). I checked in at 7:30am and was 2cm/80%/-2 and very posterior. They started pitocin on the lowest level at 9am and at 11am I was 2cm/80%/-2 but my cervix had moved anteriorly. They decided to break my water at that time to put in an internal monitor to monitor my contractions. Once we had that monitor in place they slowly started to increase the pitocin.
At 2pm I was 3cm/90%/0 station and was contracting every 2-4 minutes. I was on the birthing ball which helped a lot to sway and move with the contractions, At 4:30pm they checked me again and I was no 5cm/100%/0 station. I was in a lot of pain at this time so I decided to get an epidural. It was nice to have a chance to relax and breathe.
They then checked me again at 7pm and I was 10cm/100%/0 station. My OB decided to have me labor down for a while so I had to push as little as possible. We started pushing at 8pm and DS#2 heart rate would go down pretty far while I was pushing. My OB decided to turn the pitocin off and only have me push every other contraction so that baby had a chance to recover inbetween contractions. My epidural stopped working about 20 minutes into pushing, but I think it kind of helped to feel pressure and pain to push against. My DS#2 was born at 9:22pm and is just perfect!! I was able to do skin to skin right away and breastfeed. I had a second degree tear, but it hasn't been bothering me too much yet.
I cannot even explain how much better the recovery is than with my c-section. I feel great and am not even needing pain medication! We are home now and doing well. I wish everyone the best of luck with there VBAC's! I am so happy and blessed that mine was sucessful!
Re: VBAC Success Birth Story
Wow -- congratulations!! Do you mind sharing the reason for your c-section?
Ooh - scary! Congrats again. Although I was hoping you'd say, "I was induced at 41w3d and after 60 hours of the induction I only dilated to 5cm and the on-call doc pushed a c-section." Because that's what happened to me and I'm hoping for an awesome sounding VBAC like yours!
