TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Need advice, please

DH and I have to decide which package to do for IVF.  My RE offers 2 options - single cycle for 9500 (additional cycles available for purchase for 7000, Frozen transfers are 2800), and a shared risk 2 cycle plan for 16000 (basically, you do IVF and then use up all frozen embryos, then you move to the 2nd IVF...this package has to be used up in one year).  My concern is this: if I were to become pregnant and lose the baby after 10 weeks, we lose the 2nd IVF and all FETs.  I understand they have to make some kind of a cut-off, but with my clotting disorders, a heartbeat doesn't even come close to meaning I'll get a baby out of it.  If I didn't have such a high risk of another loss, hands down we'd do the shared risk option.  So what would you do?

    O hun thats such a tough decision and I honestly don't know which I would choose.  If you choose the shared risk option and your first attempt is successful do you get any of your money back that would have gone towards the second IVF?

    No, we would not get any money back.  It's basically a gamble with how many attempts it will take/whether or not I will be able to stay pregnant.

    Oh hun! Looking at that I would have no clue which one to go with.

    Initially I say the single cycle... but I know a single cycle doesn't mean a pregnancy with a take home baby. If you can afford it, I'd go with the 2 cycle plan.

    {{{hugs}}}

    Good luck to which ever you choose!

    That is a really awful shared risk program!  All of the ones I have ever heard of let you use your additional cycles, unless you have a take home baby.  That means even if a person has a late loss (heaven forbid) they could use their other cycles.  That just seems really unfair.  Since that is their policy though I would pay for the single cycle and then see where you may (or may not) need to go from there.

    I would go with the single cycle, usually I would say go with the shared risk, but since that is only good for a year I wouldn't go with that option.

    Personally I would go with the single cycle.  If you end up needing a second cycle the two seperately aren't that much more expensive than the $16k shared risk plan, and you may not need a second cycle.  Additionally if their cut off is 10 weeks (which SUCKS! most plans like that consider a live birth success) it really doesn't seem to be a great deal.

    Our clinic has a shared risk plan that is around 19K for two cycles (two fresh, two frozen) but my insurance has a discount so one cycle is about $9k.  If we end up having to do more than one fresh and frozen, it will be slightly more seperately than together, but I'd rather pay a little extra if we get there, than have it work after the first and feel like I 'wasted' all that money.

    I've not done any research on IVF costs, plans etc, so I really have no advice to offer.  My opinion though- I would probably just do the one cycle and go from there.  Good luck hon!

    Given the 10 week cut off and the closeness of price between single and shared-risk, I'd go with single. Provided single includes later frozen attempts off the first ER. If it doesn't, then I'd try and find a different clinic.

    I am giving that 10 week cutoff the side eye. I understood most clinic considered live birth as success.

    The single cycle does not include FET.  FET costs 2800 per attempt for the single cycle plan, but it is included free in the 2 cycle plan.

    I agree that the 10 week cutoff is Huh?, but the only other clinic in this area cuts off at 12 weeks, so they're not really any better.  I HATE having to make this decision.

    I am so sorry that you have to make this decision.  I agree w/ others that the plan doesn't seem fair, but since you don't have other options - I would go with the single plan.  Absolutely worst case - I would hate to see you pay for the shared one, get pregnant on the first one, lose the baby late, and then have to go back and pay for another one again!  Big (((HUGS))) girl.  This is such a hard decision.
