Opinion on girl name

When you see/hear the name Gemma does it remind you of the uber-popular name Emma?  I prefer not-so-popular names and don't want people thinking we are trying to re-create Emma.  TIA!

Re: Opinion on girl name

  • I do associate it a little bit, but I like Emma a whole lot better than Gemma.

  • Nope, not at all. It just makes me think of my friend Jemma
  • I do think it sounds like you are trying a little hard with it, but I like the name!  It is a nice twist on a beautiful name, nothing wrong with that.

  • I love Gemma, but I also love Emma and would not hesitate to use it despite its popularity, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

  • I like Gemma, it is very British. I don't make the association with Emma at all.
  • I don't think of Emma.  Gemma was in our top 3 for DD!

...Gemma is a totally legitimate Italian name.  It's not related to Emma.

    I'd use it.

She may turn to every other mother calling out for Emma on the playground, but her name will still be awesome. I'd say do it.

  • It's a legit name on it's own, I wouldn't think the parents were trying to be 'different' but go with Emma.  I like Gemma a lot, and I think it's great with Hudson!
  • It sounds really odd to me. I dont love the made up names, and Gemma just sounda like you played the "banana fama fo fana" game and came up with a name. Sorry if that is harsh, but the child will get an earful in elementry school. Kids are cruel!
