Babies: 6 - 9 Months

FU post re: Stupid feeding question

Last night I gave him a bigger bottle-7 oz ( I wanted to see how much he would take-he's good about stopping when he was full)

He DOWNED it.

Went straight to sleep after he ate. He was awake and put himself to bed-no problem. Went to bed approx at 8:30.

Woke up at 11:30 on the dot. DH went in and tried to put the paci in, which was met with screams. He finally picked him up, rocked him back to sleep.

Woke up at 2:30-refused paci, I was so tired from the night before, I brought him to bed, breastfeed him, and fell asleep.

Woke up at 4:30-refused paci. gave him boob, back to sleep.

Woke up at 6:30. boob-officially woke up at 7:15

Why can't my baby sleep more than 2 hours at a time?Crying

Any ideas?

Re: FU post re: Stupid feeding question

  • I am going through the same thing. I spoke with my mom and she said it is time for CIO. I think she is right. I think when DD was sick she got so use to me rocking and singing and always being there every time she cried a little....I don't know....i am kind of at a loss too. I am going to try CIO this week and see if it works....I really hope it does.

  • If I remember correctly, you said your son was only getting about 12 oz during the day. Is that correct? I would up his amount in his bottles during the day, not just his night time bottle, and maybe increase his solids. My pedi said DD should be taking 6-8 oz in a bottle at a time. She gets 2 6 oz bottles on days that I work and is BF 2 other times besides that and gets solids twice a day. 8 oz seems like a lot, but every kid is different! Is he getting enough during the day? Give him a few days. No sleep sucks! Good luck!!!

  • My thought is this may have nothing to do with food/hunger. 7 months is about when they start feeling separation anxiety, so it could be he's just waking up worried about where his mommy is and wanting some comfort and cuddles to know you're there. Boob definitely = comfort/mommy, so that konks him right back out. Or, he could be working on something developmental - either physically like trying to crawl or mentally - that's keeping him up at night. Either way, give it a week or two and he may just sleep better on his own once he gets through the phase.
