Pregnant after a Loss

What is normal to get a heartbeat on a doppler?

I am looking at purchasing a Sonoline B doppler, but I kind of want to wait until the last possible time since I don't want to jump the gun. When is the average time to find the baby's heartbeat with the doppler?

  • I started finding Aidan's around 8 1/2-9 weeks. But I've also seen a lot of ladies only able to find it closer to 12 weeks.

  • 10w6d and I have a tilted uterus.  A girl on my April board has a tutorial on youtube and it was extremely helpful.  Throughout this last week, sometimes I could find it and sometimes I couldn't.
  • I found mine at 11 weeks.
  • I waited until I was 12w3d. I knew if I couldnt find the heartbeat, I would completely freak out, so I waited until I knew I had a pretty good shot at finding it. If you get one early and think you can try without getting nervous, go for it. I just knew I would worry too much and it would add to my anxiety if I tried too early.

  • "How early can your dopplers detect the heartbeat?

Our dopplers are the same medical grade dopplers that your doctor uses and are able to detect a fetal heartrate as early as 8-10 weeks. However, due to factors such as, the position of the fetus, size and shape of mother's uterus, size of the mother's body some people may not be able to hear the heartbeat until closer to 10-12 weeks (very tall and/or overweight people may have more difficulties hearing the heartbeat before 10 or 12 weeks).

We send out surveys with each of our dopplers and the majority of customers report hearing the heartbeat between 8-12 weeks with little problem. It really depends on so many factors as to how early you will hear the heartbeat but on average, most people seem to agree that our dopplers are very easy to use.

    Of those surveyed:

5% were able the hear the heartbeat at 7 weeks

60% were able to hear the heartbeat at 8 weeks

75% were able to hear the heartbeat at 9 weeks

85% were able the hear the heartbeat at 10 weeks

90% were able the hear the heartbeat at 11-12 weeks"

I personally found the heartbeat at 7 weeks but 10 weeks is more practical/realistic.

  • I would wait.  I got mine when I was a far along as you are so I could start listening at 9 weeks (like a lot of people do) and I didn't actually hear the hb until 14 weeks!  Even the dr. couldn't find it at 12 weeks on her doppler.  It seriously drove me CRAZY when I would check forever and find nothing!

  • I couldn't find LOs heartbeat until almost 15 weeks, but most ladies have been able to find it earlier.  In my case, I have some extra weight on me and an AP, so I think that made it more difficult.  Plus, Connor loves to hide from the doppler.
