Hi All!
I got onto the bump last year when I found I was pregnant. Initially I hung out on the single mama board, but there were some pretty judgmental people there, so I left. I have recently starting lurking here because there is no time in your life that you need support more than when you become a mother.
My story, short and sweet, is that I dated a younger guy very briefly and after a contraceptive failure (yes, the condom broke) I got the news I was expecting. I'm 41 and was planning a future of traveling the world and doing everything alone. After a few days and discussions with friends, I embraced the idea of having a baby and now I embrace my daughter as often as I can! Her father freaked out and disappeared for a while, but he's now back in our lives and we are co-parenting our wonderful baby together. She was born at 34 weeks but was perfectly healthy.
I took 10 weeks' maternity leave from my job, but I really would have liked to be home with her longer. She's now a thriving five-month old doll. I was working part-time but just landed a great full-time job with good benefits and I'm starting next week, so it's quite a time of change for us.
I'd love to hear from other moms. I'm kind of thinking about switching her daycare (she goes to a licensed home daycare, but the daycare mommy is so stiff with her hours--at least for me--other parents she works with seem to get more flexibility). Any good city daycare providers? I'm paying $165 a week right now but can afford more now that I'm working a better-paying job.
DD and I are home together today because we're both suffering from a cold.
Cheers,
Kat
