Flinging herself around in crib

So I need to try the CIO method. Nothing else has been working. I tried for a little bit last night and DD flung herself all around her crib and hit her head. I now know that I am committed to CIO...it has to work. But I am wondering about her flinging herself around. Did your LO do this and how do they fall asleep...just anywhere in the crib? Also she sits straight up and screams. I am just nervous about starting this tonight.
