So DH and I are going to a halloween party and this will be the first time we use a babysitter. She works part-time at the daycare our DD goes to.
The party is 7-? and DD goes to bed at 7pm, so the sitter will be just watching TV. DD usually never gets up until 4am...or so.
My question: What do you pay a babysitter? What is the going rate these days?
Re: Going Rate?
I live in the Philadelphia suburbs and the sitter is 18 years old.
I'd say about $10/hr.
I used to make $8/hr in the NYC suburbs when I was that age, but that was a while ago now.
I usually pay a flat rate if they are young, like 4-5 hours 30$ or so. If they are older I pay about 8$ a hour, around 2 or 3$ lower than minimum wage which minimum wage here is $10.25. Since she would be sleeping and if you wont be home. If you came home around 12 i would probably do 25$.
But this is where i don;t really know, because home daycares around here are 20-30$ a day full time, I know its less because its full time but it always makes me wonder since that's 8 hours for so much less, part time they usually get more?
Edit: 18 years old, i would do $30 flat past 12 maybe a bit more.

I think even if baby is sleeping sitter rates are what they are.
I've been considering getting a babysitter on Weds. night when DH isn't home so I can go to a class at the gym. It is after she goes to bed, and I would be gone about 1.5 hours, and was thinking I'd pay $10 to a local kid, so like $7 an hour. If I was gone 5 hours, say, I'd probably pay $30.
