Karo syrup for constipation?

Does anyone use this? Our pedi recommended mixing a tsp in DS bottles a few times a day. We did it yesterday and it worked so I stopped. Now he is passing really small, hard stools again. So I guess it only works if you keep using it, but I dont want to have to give it to him all the time.

What else do you ladies do to prevent/treat constipation?

Re: Karo syrup for constipation?

  • We gave DD karo syrup at the suggestion of her pedi, but then we saw a GI doc for her reflux who said to stop the karo and instead give her 2 oz prune or pear juice mixed with 2 oz of water. I've been doing this daily with a probiotic mixed in and it works -- and I feel much better about giving her natural pear juice than karo syrup.

  • we give ds infant probiotics and it helps him poop one every day or every other day.
  • I have done one teaspoon of karo a day when she needs it. It always works.

  • Oh and try the thermometer trick. That always works to get DD going. Put the thermometer in DC's behind for about 30 seconds.
