A couple of random SP questions

1. If you decided to further your education or career while being a SP, at what age was LO could you really find the time to dedicate study time? I have 2 BS, but want to either get further credentialed in my field or get my MS eventually.

2. I have been thinking about ways to save/save up when I get my own place. One idea I had as well as my father had was to get a one bedroom, set up DD's room in the bedroom, use her closet for my clothes as well and just get a convertable sofa and I would sleep on that in the living room. Even if it was for a year I could save $1200-$1500 in a year by doing this. What do you ladies think?

3. For those of you who have flat screens, do you wall mount for safety or have an entertainment center?

4. Also, I have basically NO furniture. DD is covered and I have a TV, chair, and target cube system (where my clothes are currently). How do you suggest going about building that? I am all for cheap, but would like my "home" to look somewhat nice....IKEA and Target are my type of styles. Would you save money up and then shop with a budget or just pick things up here and there?

Told you they were random :) TIA.

Re: A couple of random SP questions

  • 1. I had DS while I was in school. I finished out the semester when he was 3 weeks old. I took the summer off and restarted in the fall when he was about 4 months old. That semester when he was 5 months old was ROUGH. Now he's 18 months and it is way easier but still really difficult to devote time to school work.

     2. I would have no problem sharing a 1 bedroom with DS.  I would probably set up a crib and bed in the bedroom. I wouldn't sleep on a sleeper sofa for a year. If I needed to I would set up a bed in the living room like it were a studio apartment.

    3. I don't think it matters. I would either wall mount above his reach or use an entertainment center and attach the TV to the wall somehow.

    4. I would save up money then search thrift stores. If you can't find anything at thrift stores I would go to Ikea. But definitely set money aside and buy stuff when you can definitely afford it.

I have 2 BS, but want to either get further credentialed in my field or get my MS eventually. I've been in and out of school since I graduated HS (10 years ago). I have my AA in Paralegal Studies and wanted to go back to school to finish my Bachleor's. I returned to school when I was 7 months PG and still "happily" married. (Kaplan University Online...completely accredited). Long story short, I'm graduating in 5 months and will have completely my Bachelor's while raising a newborn, going through a divorce and being a single mom. My DS will be just over 2 years old when I graduate. It's tough, but you can do it!

    3. For those of you who have flat screens, do you wall mount for safety or have an entertainment center? I have an armiore that I use as my entertainment center. It's extremely sturdy and heavy and DS would have to be 200lbs to pull that thing over on himself.

I have 2 BS, but want to either get further credentialed in my field or get my MS eventually.  I'm in the process of studying for my Certified Financial Planner board exam which is a rigorous two day, ten hour exam.  I began studying in April.  I really couldn't think of studying again until DS was sleeping solid through the night. I get up every morning before 5am so that I can study before he wakes up, and I study on my lunch hour and during work.

    3. For those of you who have flat screens, do you wall mount for safety or have an entertainment center?  I have a flat screen and it's mounted on the wall

Look on Craigslist for used furniture and also at yard sales.

I am hoping to move into a duplex or something like that instead of an apartment complex, but I had to do a complex, I would probably go for a one bedroom.

    3. For those of you who have flat screens, do you wall mount for safety or have an entertainment center? I have it on a t.v. table. DD can touch it but we have finally gotten her to understand that she can't!!

Definitely craigslist and yard sales. I currently have 1 chest of drawers (my dad bought DD a beautiful bedroom set) and it is not enough. I found a bedroom set that I like and while it is not overly expensive, I just can't see myself spending the money on myself. I have been checking craigslist and they have some good stuff.

Told you they were random :) TIA.
