Peg Perego Easy Drive

I'm curious if anyone out there has had experience with this stroller.  We had registered for the City Mini, but my parents went ahead and ordered the 2011 Peg Perego Easy Drive Classico through this discount club they belong to (Direct Buy, if anyone's ever heard of it).

It looks like a nice stroller (and I feel like a giant baby for even second guessing such a generous gift), but the amazon reviews are mixed.  People seem to complain that it wears out quickly.  I was wondering if anyone here has had one and if they felt it wore out quickly or if the amazon reviews are biased.

Thanks for your help!

  • The Vela used to be 3-wheeled and they just redesigned to have 4 wheels because it was really tippy.  I don't know if that's still an issue.

It's probably a notch below the City Mini in terms of features, but Peg strollers are generally decent quality.  Some can have a plasticky/rickety feel but I've never seen this one IRL.

Sounds like you might not have a choice in keeping it, though I am a believer in getting a stroller you love so maybe you can talk to them about it or at least go test it out in a store just to see if you like it (and keep the new one in the box just in case).

  • Hmmmm that is tough.  Did they ask you before just ordering it?  Maybe you can say after reading the reviews, you don't think this is going to be a great investment and that you already picked out a different stroller.

Tell them you plan on getting the City Mini yourselves.

  • Unfortunately, they didn't ask before getting it.  In many ways I feel like Eric Foreman on That 70's Show, when his parents got him an 8-track player after he had asked for a cassette player.  My dad called to tell me they had gotten us a stroller through their program that "is exactly the same, but a different brand."  They're very well meaning, but they haven't done any research on strollers, and didn't really know what we were looking for.

It arrived today.  We have it in the box still.  After thinking about it more, I'm not even sure if we could return it or exchange it, since they ordered it through their discount program.

We might just have to give it a go, and if it's really terrible purchase the city mini in the future.

  • I've got this stroller and FWIW I LOVE it!  Haven't had any durability issues except for the cupholder popping off on a regular basis but that just seems to be a PP problem in general.  I noticed a lot of reviewers complaining about things like the front wheels falling off...I'd guess they just didn't put them on correctly.  They were difficult to attach but when they're on right, you definitely know and there's no way I can see them coming off.  The "free range" harness or whatever it's called irritates because it frequently comes out of the loop but again, that's just a PP thing, our Pliko was the same way.  Smooth ride, still steers easily one handed even after being flung into airplanes and the trunk of my car.  If you really want the City Mini then go for it but if it's just because you're worried about the reviews, this is just my two cents.  It's been great for us Smile
