VBAC

length of time between pregnancies/deliveries

Had my 1st appt today- the midwife practice was supportive of my desire to VBAC BUT the she said that I have a slightly lower risk of being successful since my pregnancies are only 10ish months apart.  They recommend 14 months between pregnancies, but everything I've read recommends 18-24 months between deliveries, not pregnancies (my deliveries will 19 months apart).  Do I still have a good chance of VBACing?

Re: length of time between pregnancies/deliveries

  • My due date is 19.5 months after DD's bday and my OB has not even mentioned it. Everything I have read has said at least 18 months between deliveries as well. Good luck!

  • My ob said it didn't matter when I got pregnant.

  • I had heard 18-24 months between births.  But, I'm not sure it's based in either science or statistics.

There are studies finding that this interval reduces UR risk.

OP, I've always heard the 18+ month interdelivery interval, not interpregnancy interval.  So I think you should be fine.  GL!

  • After I had DD, my Dr said ideally 1 year before trying to get pg if I wanted a VBAC. This delivery will be almost 3 years to the day from DD's delivery, and therefore almost 3 years to the day between pregnancies.

  • My OB said she likes a 24month interdelivery interval. I told her about the study showing no significant increase in UR risk in the 18-24month group, but she was unconvinced. She said the original study was superior to the follow-up one!
