vicks vaporizer plug in thingie

We got one for Ben and used it last night and it was awesome (he has a cold).  The only thing I dont' like is that it has a built in night light that could easily light up an entire house.  So I had to put a book in front of it so it wouldn't keep him up.  He kept saying "light light light" - he gets distracted very easily!  ;)

But before I went to bed, I went in to check on him and the room was FILLED with menthol vapor.  He slept really well, so I'm thinking it helped him.

Anyway, just a product plug.  :)

Re: vicks vaporizer plug in thingie

  • Is Menthol okay to use with a younger baby?  I just bought a Walgreens Cool Mist humidifier and there is nothing cool or misty about it - I'm going to return it.  What did you use with Ben when he was a baby??

  • We have one too - but I agree that the nightlight part is a bit much.  Jack kept saying "too bright."  :-)  We too covered it up with a book, lol.

m&m - I think Vick's Baby Rub says not to use on babies under 6 months.  And the vapor baby wash I think says the same thing.  That leads me to think you shouldn't use the plug-in thing until that point too.  But what do I know....  :-)

  • I wonder if they recommendation not to use on babies under 6 months is for putting on their skin.  I know vicks has a baby one that is lotion and not the sticky rub, but not sure if it says the same age rec.  I was at Target today and meant to pick up one of those things, I paced the aisle wondering what I was forgetting..damn guess we go back tomorrow.

  • Yeah those things are STRONG!  I used it in Gage's room and I shut the door thinking it would be better to keep in the "vapors".  When I checked on him before I went to bed I opened the door was SMACKED with the Vicks smell!  It was sooo strong!!  I felt so bad closing him in there with that!  I left the door open and by morning the whole house smelled like Vicks!

I liked it though!  Next time I just won't close his door!  :)

  • Dang it, I wish I'd seen this a few days ago when I was at Target desperately searching for something to help my sick babies (and me!) get some sleep!
  • Michelle - I'd call your ped about it.. the nurses would know.

I thought it was OK just not on their skin maybe?  But it's been a long time.

When Ben was 2 months old he got really sick and all we did was saline nasal spray and tylenol.  Until he got an ear infection and then he got antibiotics.  YAY.  I was ssort of happy he needed them b/c then I could do SOMETHING for him.

  • I went and picked one up tonight.  And they had "baby vicks" that I bought, it seems the same as the other, at least the consistency.  The pharmacist said to just put it on his chest, not the upper lip like some do.

  • yeah we always had to put it on our chests and wear a t-shirt - I remember how it stuck.

Make sure he can't get to it at all or he'll get it in his eyes! ouch.
