Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Feeding Schedule?

I feel like i am not feeding my LO enough, she seems content but all my friends babies are eating more and they are younger. She is seven months ols eats five times a day, 2 - 5 ounce bottles, 2 -4 ounce bottles that she gets cereal and either a fruit or vegetable, and then a 6 ounce bottle before bed. I tried giving her a baby yo gurt and she got sick and i am nervous to let her start to self- feed. Just wondering I do not want to be depriving her of anything. How about juice, what age do you normally start that. She is super interested in her cup, should I try it? Thanks for all your thoughts!

Re: Feeding Schedule?

  • Sounds likes she's having plenty of bottle feeds, but you might want to up her solids.  You can try having her mimic your own schedule and feed her breakfast, lunch and dinner.

My son drinks about 18-24 oz of formula per day and he eats three solid meals of about 4oz each.  For breakfast I usually give him about 2oz of fruit puree and 2oz of oatmeal cereal.  For lunch I'll do maybe 2oz of oatmeal and 2oz of a veggie and then for dinner I'll give him a 4oz jar of meat/veggie combo.  The only juice I give him is if I mix his oatmeal cereal with apple juice instead of formula just for a little variety.

But remember that they are still getting most of their nutrition from the bottles so those are most important.  Solid feeds are mostly for practice right now :)  You're not depriving her of anything than a little variety right now!

  • I think 24-32 oz is the average for this age. If she's content and gaining weight on her curve,  I wouldn't worry.

  • Your baby has a beautiful name, I have an Ava Elizabeth, too Big Smile

If she is content, I wouldn't worry about it.  DD recently went from 5-6oz bottles to 1-4oz, 2-6oz and 1-7oz bottle w/ cereal/fruit puree in the morning and cereal/veggie puree in the evening.
