Babies on the Brain

WWBOTBD?

I am violently sick. I think it's the flu. I've been vomitting since I woke up this morning at 6am. Also have a fever of 100.5 and rising, body aches, diarrhea (sorry, TMI) and a wicked headache. I called my OB this morning and they said if I couldn't keep down liquids or stopped urinating, I should go to the ER this afternoon. My kidneys are killing me because I know I'm dehydrated. I've kept down about 4 oz of Gatorade since this morning, but I feel like I'm going to bs sick again. would you go to the ER now? Wait it out a bit? Should I wait for H to get home so he can drive me? Would you skip the ER and rest?

Re: WWBOTBD?

  • I would call DH, ask/tell him to come home soon, have him drive me to the ER and then head out.

I think the ER when pregnant would be a good thing.

  • I got food poisoning at 35 weeks and when I couldn't keep anything down they sent me to Labor and Delivery because the doctor was concerned the dehydration would send me into labor. The fluids helped my body reset and calmed down the contractions. I would go when your husband gets home but if you are that dehydrated you should go!

    I hope you feel better!

This.  You may need IV fluids.  Feel better!

  • We all just had the stomach flu about a week ago. I talked to my OB's nurse and she told me to sip on warm, flat coke. You can pour the coke between two glasses to get rid of the fizz. She said as long as I peed every 4-5 hours, I didn't need to go in. I was really concerned about dehydration, but she said I'd be more likely to need an IV only if I'd been sick for more than 24 hrs. The warm, flat coke worked wonders and I was able to keep sips of water down too about 6 hours later. Of course, go in if you feel you need to, but those are the home care instructions I received (and thankfully they worked)! Hope you feel better soon!

  • My OB told me to go to Labor and Delivery instead of the ER - when I had a couple of health issues while pregnant.
