My 7 month old is still struggling with
occasional (like once a day) projectile spit up after the bottle. This
is not a small amout, it is enough to soak both of us. This can happen
after 3 ounces or sometimes more. She will usually go right back to the
bottle after. She was diagnosed with reflux at 2 months or so and the
zantac seemed to work for a while. She has no weight gain issues, she is
on the upper end of the charts. She is not bothered by the spit up. We
have tried paced feedings, adding rice cereal, hypo allergenic formula and formula with
rice cereal pre-added and she takes all of them just fine but still does
not change the spit up. I was sort of under the impression that she
would be grown out of this by now. Should I be worried? Can anyone
relate? Pediatrician has always said if weight is fine that we should
not worry but it seems crazy that she is still doing and I am just
worried that it is some gastrointestinal thing but really, what do I
know?
Re: projectile spit up
Soy is the only thing that helped one of my girls and she's still on Zantac. If needed they may up her dosage.
Zantac does not help with spit up, it's an antacid. It helps with the acid part of acid reflux. Doctors seem very quick to prescribe this when parents mention spitting up, even if the baby isn't in discomfort.
It sounds very similar to the reaction my daughter was having to milk and soy. She is breastfed, so I had to cut those things out of my diet. She is on an antacid, because she also has GERD which causes a lot of spit up. The projectile vomiting stopped though when I eliminated milk and soy. I think you need to talk to your pedi about it.
I hope your LO feels better.
