Thoughts on the name/spelling Emelia vs.Ameila

I'm curious about your opinions of the name Emeila.   For some reason, I love this name and not so much Amelia (I know, I know - the "E" does not make it a different name).   To me though - it does feel a lot different - and the nickname  options (if we even use one) are much different, which I also like.   I do know that E or A - the name is popular.

I guess my question is, do you think spelling it with an E is common enough that it doesn't seem like we're trying to be *speshal*?

Re: Thoughts on the name/spelling Emelia vs.Ameila

  • Yes, I think Emilia is common enough that people will know it's legitimate.
  • I've honestly never seen Emelia. Do you mean Emilia?

    Emilia seems common enough, but I am also the only person who responded to the Luna post below saying I'd had Luna overkill. So, Emilia might be much more common among Spanish-speakers.

  • Emilia is a different name than Ameila. If you are indeed just changing the A to E thus Emeila- then you are being uneek. And would need to correct and spell it for people.

    E and A make different sounds.

    If you like E go with Emilia.

  • I like Emilia or Amelia, but Emelia looks like it is spelled wrong.

  • I'm glad I posted this question because I hadn't given much thought at all to Emilia vs. Emelia.   Thanks for the heads up here!

  • I like both spellings and think they're both fairly common.  I would look at the nickname you might use:

    Emelia = Emmy

    Amelia = Millie

  • I think spelling it with an "E" is common enough but for me it would change the pronounciation.

    Amelia - pronounced like Ah-Mel-ia

    Emelia - pronounced like E-Mel-ia

  • I'm like the exact opposite of you.  I love Amelia, but not fond of any E-variant.
