Cloth Diapering

wool wicking

I bought a soaker off etsy from seller MyEcoBaby, lanolized it (pea sized amount melted in warm water, squirt of California baby wash), and let it dry. I used it 3 times and all three times the wool was pretty damp and baby's PJ's and/or sleep sack was damp as well. Is this normal?  Did I do something wrong?

Re: wool wicking

  • What kind of diaper are you using? You need to add more absorption to your diaper. Put an extra hemp insert in there and that should help. Also, I only put LO in fleece jammies and sleepsacks because they also help with wetness. Cotton jammies can wick moisture from the wool cover.

  • sounds like it needs to be lanolized more and you possibly need to add more absorbancy

we use cotton jammies over our wool soakers all the time, if the diaper is absorbant enough and the wool has been properly lanolized then it should not wick.

  • I've used an EcoPosh with both 6r soakers it comes with and a snapless SBish with both inserts it comes with. Both diapers work just fine with PUL (no leaks, no rashes) and I feel like if I add much more absorbancy, she'll barely be able to move in her sleep. I really want to get on the wool bandwagon, but it's not coming easily....

then just lanolize your wool again.  sometimes it takes a few times to get new wool good and lanolized.  it's ok if it feels slightly tacky, it'll wear off over time.
