Pampering before scheduled C-section?

Not sure why I am already thinking about this now (DS2 is due in late March) but was wondering if any of you scheduled a little bit of "me time"/pampering right before a scheduled C-section. I had an unscheduled C-section with my daughter (who was 3 days past due date) after a lot of consideration, and my doctors honest opinion it seems like a RCS will be best--for medical reasons not convenience.

I'm wondering if somehow taking advantage of this advance notice by getting some primping done makes me less serious about going in for abdominal surgery birth of a long awaited child?

  • I don't think so, especially if your pregnancy is otherwise uneventful. I may only have a week left due to preterm labor issues and placenta previa. I know I need to get things in order, but I am on bedrest now. DH is helping with cleaning and last minute things like carseat installation, but I would love to get my roots touched up or my toenails painted at least! I say go for it if you are able to!

  • Go for it! Go out to lunch with friends, get a mani/pedi, spend an afternoon doing what makes you feel good. If you don't do it before baby comes it will likely be quite some time before you are able to squeeze in that kind of "me time." I don't think anyone would blam you for taking advantage!

  • I got my hair done the day before my c-section thinking that it would look good while I was in the hospital...  I was feeling good while I was getting ready, but I looked like a mess during my stay.  I got really hot and my hair started to do weird things.  I also had cute and subtle nail polish on my toes.  In my hospital, it's forbidden to go into surgery with nail polish on your fingers.  It's something about the saturation machine not being able to make a good read, if I recall correctly.

Like PP, I say do what makes you happy.  You definitely deserve some me time!  I know it helped me relax a lot.

  • I had an emergency c-section with my 2nd son but with both boys when I was 38 weeks I got a haircut and pedicure since I knew I wouldn't have time after baby arrived.

  • Yep! I actually did this with DS #1 even though it wasn't scheduled. I took off about a week before my due date and got a massage, pedicure and read the entire Twilight Breaking Dawn book on my back deck in the sun.

I looked back on that week and was so happy I did it before the baby came so this time I have a hair appt. scheduled, massage and pedicure in the 5 days before my c-section.

If there is anytime to pamper yourself it is right before you are about to become a slave to a newborn schedule and in recovery for a few weeks IMO :)

    Go for it!

  • I totally got a pedicure before and got a hair cut b/c who knew when I was going to be able to get out for another one again.  I think it's fine.  A part of me even hoped that a pedi and massage might put me in labor and help things turn out differently (didn't happen).

  • Have as much me time as you can! Afterwards you are going to have to not only deal with a new baby, but another c section AND your older child. The more relaxed you are the easier it will be to recover. So get your me time on!
