diaper rash

our 6 month old DS has had diaper rash maybe twice in his life but it was just some redness and a few little bumps. just a few days ago it started out like that but yesterday and today is has been awful.  his poor little but is raw : (  we have been letting him play naked for a bit after his diaper changes and using Desitin.

 any other suggestions?!?

Re: diaper rash

  • If it doesn't get better with the desitin (are you using the maximum strength one?), it might be a yeast rash.  Diaper creams usually irritate yeast rashes and make them worse.  Lotrimin, or an anti-fungal cream like that, for a few days might help.  I'd check with the pedi first though.

This. Check with the pedi if it doesnt seem to get better-same thing happened to me and it was a yeast infection. Also, put water in an air/bulb syringe instead of using wipes to clean the area.

  • We're experiencing something similar. She's so raw that she screams even laying her down to change her. Our pedi prescribed an antibiotic cream because she was so sore and recommended not using baby wipes, even the "sensitive" kind. They have alcohol in them and other chemicals that continue to irritate a diaper rash. So instead, we've been using a little spray bottle with a drop of baby soap and warm water with wash clothes or wet paper towels.

Also, I think we've bought and used every diaper rash cream out there and SWEAR by "Triple Paste". It's pricey, but for good reason...it works!

    Good Luck!
