So i was talking to a old friend who has a 10 month old daughter, and she was telling me how her DD just starting crawling a week ago?I was shocked. Is this not crazy late? Arn't they suppose to be walking around a year? Correct me if im wrong
DD is 8 months old and not crawling yet. My niece is 5 weeks younger and has been crawling for a week or so. I think every child is different. My DD has a very patient and content personality where as my niece is more of a go getter.
Nope, 10 months is still normal. Crawling is a weird not-quite-milestone. Not all babies do it and it's not necessarily indicative of when they'll start walking.
The "norm" for crawling is 6-9 months, so she is a bit behind the curve. However, that's not indicative of when she could start walking. Just because she's late to hit that milestone doesnt mean she will be late for the next one. She might be an early walker and start walking in another few weeks. The "norm" for walking is pretty broad-many kids dont walk until 14+ months and that's still pretty common. The majority of kids arent walking by 12 months.
Yeah, I've seen some babies go from crawling to walking in a matter of a few weeks or so. My Mom told me that I crawled and walked at the later ages of the "norm" and I turned out just fine lol. Every baby does things at their own pace. Not all of 'em are crawling at like 5 months lol.
DD is 8.5 months and crawled for the first time this weekend (although she's not doing it regularly). At our 6 month appointment our pedi said not to worry too much about crawling as long as she's progressing overall. She said that a lot of babies skip crawling and go to walking (she said this has been happening a lot more since back to sleep started).

This was my nephew - went from crawling to running within a month (ninth). Granted, he watched his feet for the next two years and fell down regularly, but pretty much ran instead of walking any chance he got.
