Preemies

34-35 weekers

So I am still hanging on by a thread....my cervix that is.

I finally reached what my docs consider a very safe week- 34 weeks.  At this point I feel like I literally can go at anytime especially when I stand up.  I am still on bedrest and prob until I deliver.

If you had a 34-35 weeker, how did it go?

How long was your baby in NICU and what were the problems?

I know all babies are diff I just want to hear some stories.

Many thanks.

Re: 34-35 weekers

  • I have a 33 weeker if you want the best sen. He didn't need oxygen didn't have apnea problems the only thing that he had was a feeding tube for 4 days and was jaudice got to come home after 10 days.he was 3lbs 11oz. he will b7 weeks 2marrow and is 7lbs 1/2 oz
  • DS was born at 34 weeks.  He spent a little over 2 weeks in the NICU.  He had apnea, reflux / swallow issues, and temp control issues.  He spent 3 days on preventive antibiotics.  Was born 5lbs 7ozs and is now 4 months old and 14lbs!  Hang in there!

  • DS was born at 33 w 2 d. He was 4 lbs 2 oz. He never needed any respiratory support. He had a little jaundice (needed the bili lights for one day) and he had to stay in the NICU while learning how to eat and maintain body temp. He did really well there and came home after 13 days. To look at him now, you'd never know he was a preemie. He has no issues (other than some mild reflux) and reaches all his milestones somewhere between his actual age and his adjusted age.

  • Oh...he also needed antibiotics as a precaution since I never got the group b strep test and since my membranes ruptured so early and there was risk of infection and because he had meuconium during delivery and they were afraid he might have breathed some in.

  • Our boys were born at 34w 6d and spent 14 days in the nicu. ?They were on the cpap on room air for 12 hours, then under the lights for?jaundice, and then just had to get the suck/swallow/breathe complex down. Thats what took the majority of the time. hth!?
  • Mine were born at 34 weeks exactly.  My daughter spent 12 days in the NICU, my son spent 13 days there.  They were both perfectly fine in terms of breathing and temperature (although I did have the steroid shots to help their lungs before I delivered because we knew they might be early).  They only had to stay so that they could improve their digestion.  They always had the suck/swallow down but they weren't tolerating the milk well.  They are both doing great now at one month.

  • I'm late responding, but I had my son at 34 weeks, and he was totally fine. No oxygen, or feeding tubes or anything. He had to stay at the hospital for 3 nights because of hospital policy. He's 4 now, and he's perfect. GL!!
  • My baby was born at 35 wks 2 days, and spent 0 time in the NICU! We were so fortunate.  They called it late PTL and said that babies can go either way at that point gestation.  I never had a check of DSs lungs before I went into labor because I had no idea my water would break early.
