I absolutely hate when people pick out names just based on the possible nicknames.  Ugh, just name your child what you want to call them.

     this

and also names being used for the wrong gender - eg. Dylan, Elliot - both boys names, dont call girls that

I don't like it when people use boy names for girls (like naming a girl "Ryan"), or vis versa. But, to each her own....

I agree with this completely, especially the very, very boy-ish names, that will continue to be predominantly male, like Billie or Charlie.  At multiple points in that baby's future life, she will show up to some significant event, like a job interview, and someone will not recognize her as Billie or Charlie because that person will be expecting a boy/ man.

On a TTC journey since March 2010 that is making me more appreciative of life and love. 7/20 -- Surprise phone call from RE after lap pre-op appt-- BFP! 8/5 -- Ultrasound #1 8/12 -- Ultrasound #2 Pregnancy Ticker My Imperfect Pursuit of Gardening

I can be very pet peevy about names. I have worked with kids and I would just cringe.

I would have to be cliche and say I despise Aidan, Brayden, Caden, Jayden, Hayden...Zayden!

Seriously. It might be cute on a child but I just cannot fathom an adult man with a career introducing himself as Caden. Ew!

I also really do not like Grace and Rose as middle names because they are sooooooo overdone. Even if they're cute, they are not special because every little girl born in the last 2 years practically has that middle name.

When people say this on the baby name board.  All. The. Time.  I mean, I get it, Cupcake or Bunny would look bad on a resume, but Caden?  There are TONS of little Cadens running around right now, and they will all grow up and become teachers, lawyers, accountants, etc.  So, no, it won't seem weird to see his name on a resume in 20 years.

And don't get me wrong, I very much prefer traditional names.  I just think it's a dumb argument.

I can't believe no one has thrown, "Haven't you read freakonomics?" at you yet.  FWIW I tend to agree with you.

As a substitute teacher I don't like names that I can't figure out how to pronounce.  This goes for kreative names, but also some traditional names as well.  Sorry Shiobhan, this is America and a lot of people who aren't as awesome as your mom and dad are going to call you Shee--oh---bun.

I had to laugh at a friend of a friend that teaches at an inner city school in Atlanta and said her class is like a used car parking lot. She has a Mercedes, Beemer, Lincoln, Porche, and a Lexus.  True story, I promise.

I had a friend who's name is Delorean and her sister were Mercedes and Porsche. She kind of got the shaft on that one imo

Amoerizzle, that is an urban myth. Check out this snopes page about La-a.

I really did meet someone with the name La-dash-a, but she's no urban legend. She spells it Ladaesha, which I thought should be la-day-shuh, but I wasn't the one in the hospital naming her. She takes a lot of flak now that the La-a story went around.

My biggest naming pet peeve is changing a spelling or pronunciation and still trying to honor someone. If you want to honor great grandmother Estelle, name your daughter Estelle. Don't name her Stella and say it's after grandma. You just like the name Stella, which is fine.
