first off thank you to all the DC area ladies who gave recommendations for our trip! we did the Botanical (visited Childrens) garden, the zoo (hot and busy but worth it!), plus Zaytina (plus DH took co-workers there later in the week!).
but I do want to say...we took the metro I think at Union Station...had to get the elevator between G&H a bit north of Fords Theater. It was just me and DS. That freaking thing looks like a coal mine elevator. plus one other guy got on with me and I was secretly worried he was going to turn around in the elevator and kill us. doesn't help that I'm claustraphobic.
and just for your own amusement....we left the zoo and were going to walk the 3/4 mile to the Woodly/Zoo metro..but I thought Columbia Heights station looked closer. well my brain dead self didn't figure heights = walking uphill the entire time. got to the station...closed. went to take a taxi - didn't take credit cards. at that point...I'm crying. cab driver asks what happened to my cash and I said "my husband took it all! (for the last cab ride)" he felt sorry for us and our sad pitiful state and gave me a ride for free. luckily DH was at our hotel and was able to come down and pay him.
PS Taste of DC rocked and I loved it. protestors next to our hotel/next to Taste of DC...not so much.
PPS In DH's hurry to upload to the new Iphone operating system, he managed to accidentally delete all but 2 of our white house pictures and any other misc trip pictures he had. darn it. luckily we had my phone and the camera used as well, so kind of ok there.
Re: scariest metro elevator ever...plus our dc visit recap and thanks!
I'm glad you had a good trip!
A free cab ride is a rarity - that was really nice of him.
Yeah, the elevators are dim, for sure.
Sounds like a great trip!
