1st Trimester

I'm starving but nothing sounds good!

So, I'm just past 6 weeks, and so far I haven't had any nausea and/or vomiting. I keep expecting that it's just around the corner, but so far I've been very lucky.

However, the past couple of days I have noticed that more and more NOTHING sounds appetizing to me. I know I have to eat, and I do get ravenously hungry, but I just go into my kitchen and stare at all the food I don't want to eat.

If I try to force myself to eat something that doesn't sound good it makes me feel ill...not nauseated...just gross. I hope that makes sense.

Is anyone experiencing this, or did you experience it earlier in your pregnancy?

Do you have any suggestions as to foods that worked for you?

I'm desperate to try anything. I'm having twins AND I've had gastric bypass, so I feel like I have a lot working against me as it is (nutritionally speaking).

  • When I wad pregnant with my son I had the exact same problem.  I lived on smoothies with wheat germ and flax seed meal for weeks.   Hope it gets better for you soon!

  • I had this terribly the first time around.  Just eat whatever you can stomach.
  • My bank account is very well aware of this problem because I've eaten out so much in the past month.  Nothing IN my house sounds good, and so when I think "Mmmm alfredo pasta!" I rush us to Olive Garden and partake.
  • That is happening to me, all of my 'go-to' foods sound horrible! I stand in front of the firdge or pantry and when I reach for something I feel like my throat is literally closing up!

Our Chick-Fil-A was having construction but just re-opened yesterday, and it sounded to good that I bought breakfast, tea.... and then something else to have for mu lunch! That is probably the first day that I have had even my normal calorie intake!

  • I want almost nothing to eat. Sometimes I'm not hungry and nothing sounds good.. but a lot of times I soo want something, but can't find anything I want.

Here's what I can actually stomach:

    HOT wings

Pasta with garlic and red pepper

    Onions & pickles

  • Gosh, I'm having teh exact same problem. The only thing I can deal with eating right now is tomato soup for some strange reason. I'm just not into food. I am however forcing myself to eat it.
  • I'm in a similar situation. When I was first pregnant I was starving ALL THE TIME. Then around week 8 I had some discomfort, no sickness just didn't want to eat. Now I'm hungry again but nothing sounds good. It's a pain.
  • welcome to my world.  I hate the nuaseas/hunger/disgusted feeling.  I usually stick to bread and fruit.  I also eat cereal, cheese, and chips.  I hope this goes away soon too.
  • I've been having the same thing this passed week where NOTHING in my house sounds good to pack for lunch or have for dinner. But Chick Fil A ALWAYS sounds good to me :O)

  • Yes.  All the time.  I have to basically force myself to eat things, and will feel gross afterwards.  The best advice I have is to go online and look at pictures of food that you can get from restaurants nearby.  Usually, I will find SOMETHING that looks remotely appetizing and then I make my DH go get that exact thing.  I notice that if I eat something different, I get really icky feeling, but if I eat the exact thing that sounds appetizing, I will be okay.  It's STRANGE!
  • I had this in the beginning of my pregnancy with my DS.  It's just starting with this pregnancy.  I used to cry because I was so hungry but couldn't get myself to put food in my mouth.  When something did sound good I would rush to eat it before the mood passed.

  • Nothing ever sounded good with any of my pregnancies, but my first 2 were the worst.  However, if I didn't eat, I was puking all day.  I ate a lot of carbs.  I remember diets of waffles and easy-mac with DS.  Disgusting, but it worked.  I generally ate whatever I could stomach.  It was real annoying cuz once something started making me sick, I had to find a new go-to food.  Good luck!
