Nasonex?

The ENT doctor tells me it is fine to take Nasonex while pregnant, but everything I find online says absolutely not to take it. Dr. office is at lunch so I'm waiting for a call back.

Anyone?

EDIT: My Dr. just informed me that Nasonex is absolutely fine to take because "it's just a nasal steroid." She said the category C is because there is no official testing done one way or the other on it. Just FYI.

Re: Nasonex?

  • Nasonex is a category C

Studies on animals show adverse effect and toxicity on fetus. No adequate and well controlled studies done on pregnant women.Drugs should be given only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.

  • The only thing my Dr. said I could take is Claritin, so I'm not sure about that one.

  • I have been told not to take nasonex, and I have horrible allergies. A saline nasal spray is ok'd though.

  • I have horrible allergies and miss my Nazonex more than anything.  I was told only Claratin and occassional Benedryl.

  • I have horrible allergies and asthma. They are so bad that I get allergy shots, I am allergic to everything. My doctor told me to NOT take Nasonex. They seriously told me like 5 times to not take it. They called in a perscription for rhinocort which is a category B drug and safe to use during pregnancy. Now the rhinocort doesn't help as much as the nasonex, but it is better than nothing as I am so stuffed up sometimes that I cannot breathe. He said not to take anything with a "d" at the end. So I take regular zyrtex and my rhinocort.

  • I used Nasonex (before pregnancy) and stopped once I found out I was pregnant because I was told to do so by my OB and my Ear, Nose, Throat doctor.  One of the ingredients in Nasonex is Mometasone Furoate, which (though unlikely) can slow down a child's growth if used for a long time.  I don't know how that translates to a baby, but they also say it is uncertain if the drug passes in breast milk so I'd error on the side of caution and not use it.
