Severe diaper rash

I am not sure what just happened, but hearing my daughter cry like that was heart breaking.  She had a very mild yeast infection last week and it cleared up in a few days. We have never had any other problems with diaper rash or yeast infections.  We started using huggies tonight instead of pampers.  My dh changed her before bed and she was fine, no rash.  She woke up around 10 screaming. We could not figure out what was wrong but I could tell she was in pain.  My dh decided to check her diaper and when he took the diaper off we both just gasped.  She was fire engine red in her vaginal area.  It looked very painful and she screamed and screamed.  How could this happen so fast.  We cleaned her and put a ton of butt paste on her.  I held her on my chest for a good hour or so cause she finally calmed down.  I just checked her again and it looks at least 50% better.  We put a pampers on her when we had changed her.  Now I don't know if I should wake her and change her again to keep her dry or let her sleep since she is finally not in pain.  Has anyone ever heard of this happening?

Re: Severe diaper rash

  • We had a horrible diaper rash last week, it was because she pooped in the middle of the night and we didn't know to change her. I let her have 15 minutes of naked time to air her out after her baths and used vasaline on her with each diaper change. It cleared up nicely.

Same for us, we switched back to Pampers.

  • We had the same reaction with Pampers, we have to use Huggies.

The only time we have this happen is if DD poops in the middle of the night (she STTN) and we don't change her right away. Naked bum time helps.
