Facebook help!

OK, I posted pictures of Taylor's 1st birthday today on fb and I tagged people in some of the pictures.  Now their friends (that I am not friends with) can comment on my pictures.  I am not liking this!  I have alll these folks I don't know liking and commenting on pictures of my kids.  For some reason that creeps me out.  I know they can see the pics if I tag their friends, but this commenting and liking thing is new.  How can I prevent that?  I have checked my security and I have it set to only friends, but I have no idea what to change it so other people I am not friends with can comment on my pics.

Re: Facebook help!

  • This happened to me when I posted our pictures from the beach trip a few weeks ago. It was so odd to me that people I didn't know was commenting on my pictures. I figured it was because of all the new changes so I went to my account setting to straighten it out. I still have no clue how to change it back to the "friends only" setting. I am interested to see if anyone else have tried to fix this problem.

  • Yeah that's weird they can do that!  I'm so annoyed by the way FB shows when my friend comments on a non-friend's status or picture in MY newsfeed...why would I care??  Not to mention that non-friend doesn't need me seeing their stuff anyway.  I have no idea how to fix it other than to set it to friends-only, but sounds like that is not the answer.

  • I *think* the only way to get around it is to not tag your friends when you post.  From what I can tell, when you tag someone, it is as if that person was posting it themselves, so it gets broadcast to their default audience, and all of their friends can comment on it.

  • I thought if you put Only Friends on the album/pictures then no one else can see them. Is this not how it is anymore?

  • For now, I think the only thing you can do is NOT tag people unless you want their whole audience to see/comment.  I am 99% sure that FB will fix this eventually- it seems to be the #1 gripe with the new set up and its really stupid and defeats the purpose of their security settings!  It's like they didn't even test this stuff before they rolled it out to everyone!

  • I thought about just not tagging people, but that's not really fair.  My mom and dad get really excited about those pictures.  Plus your friends can tag themselves in your pictures.  My SIL did it.  I had only tagged my brother in a picture and she tagged herself.  I don't like it at all!
