Ear infection question

I suspect my 8 mo old has an ear infection.  Are there ear drops or any other medication I can give him?

He had one previous infection the Dr. just happened to catch at a routine visit, for which she Rxed antibiotics.  At that time, she said they don't usually Rx anything.  So, I don't know if I should take him in...  He doesn't have a fever or any other symptoms.

Re: Ear infection question

  • DD had an ear infection a few weeks ago and was given Amoxicillin, which is what I've always been prescribed as well.

  • Tylenol or motrin for the pain, but other than that, if it really is an ear infection I would want to get it checked out/start antibiotics as soon as you can.

What makes you think he has an ear infection? Pulling on it? Fussy?

Huh? Was it viral?   A bacterial ear infection needs antibiotics to make it go away.

WHat other symptoms does your LO have?

  • We just took DD to the Dr. on Monday for a suspected ear infection (it wasn't) and the Dr. said that if it was she would have prescribed antibiotics. If you have a bacterial infection antibiotics are needed to get rid of it.

  • My DD was diagnosed with a double ear infection last week.  She didn't have any of the traditional symptoms other than the fever...no ear pulling or fussing... The doctor gave her antibiotics and drops to put in her ears that would dull the pain.
  • My LO is currently on an antibiotic for an ear infection as well. Def take your LO to the pediatrician for the antiobiotics!
