Valium

Were you given Valium for your ET? I will be getting one tomorrow and I'm just wondering what your experiences have been with it. I know I've been told I'll be kind of out of it, but I want to be able to know what's going on while it's happening! Thanks!

Re: Valium

  • I did not have any meds for my transfer.  It's a pretty painless procedure.  I'd say the most uncomfortable part is having a full bladder, but even then it's not that bad.  I'll be curious to see other people's experiences.

ETA: Maybe they are giving you the Valium with all the other concerns from this cycle...possible OHSS, UTI...that would maybe make some sense to me.

  • Ok good to know...I have cervical stenosis too so maybe that's part of the reason. I'm hoping it isn't painful...it seems like anytime something has to be placed through my cervix there is difficulty! (which is why they had me do the misoprostol tablets earlier in the cycle.)

We ended up staying here. He kept everything down yesterday after I posted, and slept a ridiculous amount of the day (and all night) and woke up feeling much better. It's good to see him playing and talking again! No one else, including his twin, has gotten sick and we figured by that point I would have probably already been exposed to his contagious germs so there wasn't as much a reason to pack up and move out. Thank you for asking!

  • I was totally with it on the valium. I don't have stenosis, but a tricky cervix. I guess it relaxes me, as the REs think it makes their job a little easier. But honestly, I couldn't tell a difference. Good luck!

  • it's usually a very low dose. you are completely aware of what is going on.

i had 1/2 of one for my first ET and none for the other 3.

  • I have the urge to hum broadway songs and make pleasant conversation with everyone while on Valium (I'm much more shy/anxious normally). If anything hurts I feel it but i just don't care. But I'm totally with it, remember everything and have no complaints. It's actually one of the fun aspects of transfer for me- DH and I will spend the waiting time singing songs together and being silly :)

  • Wasn't given it and didn't need it.  Transfer was no big deal.  Didn't hurt and didn't take long (except for the waiting around after part).  Not that much different that the IUI's.  Did you mention anxiety?  Good luck  Hope everything goes great!!!
  • I had it for my CCRM transfer, too.  I think it's standard there.  My RE said it's just to relax everything.  I could hardly tell a difference - you will definitely be with it.  Good luck!

  • 1 out of 4 clinics gave me valium. It was awesome. I had accupuncture right after and fell into a nice sleep. You will have to have someone drive you but I didn't feel out of it. I probably wouldn't have even slept if I wasn't on the table with needles in me.....

This for me too. My RE said it helps to hold our urine, so I wouldn't pee on him...

This made me giggle!  Smile  I will let you know if I get the urge to sing too!  (This reminds me of when I had laughing gas before I was fully sedated to get my wisdom teeth out--I got SUPER talky and was telling everyone about how all of my friends at school--I was in high school at the time--would love the stuff and did it come in different flavors etc etc etc...lol!)

Oh and illini--I guess I jinxed myself.  We're now at a hotel.  The kid got sick again this afternoon even though he was feeling much better this morning.  Better safe than sorry--with tomorrow being transfer, moving wouldn't have really been an option after tonight.

  • I took it, the whole embryo transfer was a blur. That's ok, it's so stressful.
  • I also took Valium for my ET. It didn't make me feel out of it - just very relaxed & I was very aware of what was happening during the ET. I had asked my RE about why they give you Valium & she said not only does it relax you but it also relaxes your uterus which she said can help with the transfer.

    Wishing you luck :)
