Flying with babyfood question

LO and I will be taking a 2 hour flight in a couple of weeks and I want to bring baby food with me. I want to bring the organic pouches. but Im afraid they could possibly explode bc they'll have to be checked. Anyone do this successfully or unsuccessfully? I could just buy them there but tax is crazy high in Chicago even on food.

Re: Flying with babyfood question

  • i would just buy them there and pay the extra.  or, buy on amazon and ship them to your destination, if possible.

  • I've never traveled with baby food, but anything I travel with that I'm worried about leaking, or exploding, I just put into a heavy-duty ziplock bag. You could put one pouch per bag and then even if they explode you would still be able to use them. GL!

  • Are you allowed to carry it on?  I know that for formula the rules are different, but I don't know about baby food.

  • I've carried on baby food (gerber stage 1 food), water in baby bottles, formula, rice cereal, apples, etc. fom Chicago to New York and Chicago to California. I haven't brought pouches of food so I don't know about it exploding, but I would put it in ziplock bags (bring as many as you'd need for the day) and check the rest.
  • As one who used to take 100 flights a year at least for work, the only thing I've ever had "explode" when checked was a bottle of shampoo once. And it didn't explode, it just popped the push value at the top to open the bottle so a couple of tablespoons leaked out. I've checked cans of coke, pudding jars, bottles of wine, etc all without incident.

Although this is all irrelevent because the TSA lets you take baby food in your carry on if you declare it! From the TSA website: "You are allowed to bring gel or liquid-filled teethers, canned, jarred, or processed baby food in your carry-on baggage and aboard your plane."

  • I brought on a couple pouches on this trip. No explosions, and no issues with TSA.

  • we just flew ny to chi- chi to den... with pouches !  i didnt check anything baby (in case bag was misplaced)...  we had Plum food, gerber food and put in ziploc and took it out at security, bottles and formula do the same. i even had a sippy cup with water.. they open it wave something over it and move on.. no problem yet  (we even flew NY  to Hawaii and had no prob), btw it doesnt need to be 3oz or less, baby stuff is the exception to the rule. make sure tho, that when u go thru the scan u dont have blanket shoes or jacket on baby !
