WWYD -- family edition

My sister and BIL recently bought a franchise. I think it's a pretty stupid business idea and a waste of money, but have not said anything negative to them.

I just went to their website, and parts of it are really badly written with numerous spelling and grammatical errors and a couple of pretty significant factual errors.

Would you:

1) Say something to them?

2) Offer to edit the website?  (I am a professional writer.)

Re: WWYD -- family edition

  • yes and yes

How is your relationship with your sister? Do you think it would go over well if you offered to help?

  • Omigosh, that would drive me batty.  If it was my sister, I would offer to fix those things for her.

This.  If she bought a franchise, I am surprised corporate isn't already on her to fix it.  What type of business is it?

  • Given that it is your profession, go for it and make the offer.  Just be careful how you word it - saying something like I would like to offer my services for free to help you really make the website eye popping or attention grabbing - are you interested vs pointing out all the mistakes could go far.

I wondered the same thing.  I wouldn't think they would have control over their website if it's a franchise.

That's the thing I don't know -- how much of the text on the website is theirs. Most of the website seems canned and probably came from the corporate office. The stuff that is bad is specfic to their local franchise, so I wonder if they wrote it, or someone at corporate wrote it for them and did a bad job.
