I just got my buy 5 get one free from Kelly's closet forBum Genius's.. they are all in ones and come with 2 inserts. I know you stuff the one size adjustable insert in there, but what is the second one for? Its thinner...
I'm assuming you mean they're the BG 4.0 pockets. The smaller one is a newborn insert. When you have the diaper on the smallest setting, the bigger insert doesn't go in there very well. When baby is bigger and you have the diaper on a larger setting, you can use both inserts if you need more absorbency.

Ok got it. So when they are newborns you just use the smaller insert? Is it enough absorbency? What if you need more?
You might end up needing more. If you do, I would recommend using a thirsties hemp insert behind the BG newborn insert. I believe you can also fit the larger BG insert on the smallest setting. I prefer the hemp, though, because having the large insert in the smallest setting makes the diaper a bit bulky on such a little baby.

You'll see when the time comes. I would just stuff them all with the newborn insert in them for now so they are ready to be worn. If it's not enough absorbency for your infant (don't actually count on any one-size diaper fitting your baby perfectly as a newborn), add the larger insert. You can mix and match them and find the absorbency you need as your baby grows.
We are using both inserts, snapped to the smallest size, for my 3 month old (she FINALLY is fitting into them!). I put the bigger one with the fold-over towards the back and the smaller one on top.
