Hi, ladies! I don't post on this board too frequently, but I lurk a lot. And, I would love to get your opinions on one of out name choices.
DH and I aren't going to find out the sex of our LO for a few more weeks, but have been throwing around names for a while now. We have a few boys names picked out, but we are having more trouble with girl names. What do you all think of Eloise? DH and I love it because we want something that is not super popular, but is not trying to hard to be unique either and will be something that will grow well with her. We also tend to like more traditional/old fashioned names. I have loved Olivia and Ava forever, but due to their recent surge in popularity, we are most likely not going to use either of them- at least not for this baby. As one of about a bajillion Ashleys born in the mid-80s I know how it feels to be one of many.
So, I want your opinions? Does Eloise sound too grandma-ish? What is the first thing you think of when you hear it? Thanks, ladies!
Re: Eloise?
Although this name is not as popular as Ava and Olivia, it is definitely rising. It is discussed on this board pretty frequently. And this name is trendy in two ways (old lady chic and El- names).
I don't think these trends are a bad thing, but if your goal is unique, this may not be your name.
ETA: Oops I just reread your post and saw you said not trying too hard to be unique. I first read it as trying to be unique. Eloise might be a good pick after all!
I obviously LOVE the name (see DD#2), but had the same issues with it initially that you have regarding it being too grandma-ish. I actually hated the name when my sister and father first mentioned it (it was my paternal grandmother's name), but over the next 9 months it slowly started to grow on me and the day she was born it was the only name that fit! I adore the name now and get so many compliments on it. It's still rather unique here, but not outrageous.
FWIW- we call her Ellie which I know is not a favorite on this board, but it really does suit her and allows such a grown up name to be cute and 'little'.
