So my little dude may have a milk sensitivity. Anyone have an LO with
that? How did you find out and what changes did you make that really
helped? How did it go coordinating with LO's dad? Right now the doctor
and I just suspect the milk sensitivity so I'm switching him to soy to
see if that helps.
Re: Milk senstivity question...
ours is an allergy (milk, soy, eggs, peanuts).. the only thing to do is to eliminate. This way your LO will not suffer or be in any pain. There are a TON of other things that you can give your LO instead of cows milk.
What are his signs?
your LO's dad is not on board with this? There is no coordinating for us, we just eliminated it and we both understand it's the only thing to do so he's not suffering.
here is a good article about avoiding dairy. https://web.mit.edu/kevles/www/nomilk.html#badingredients (make sure you also avoid casein and whey - both are cow's milk protein and aren't labeled correctly ---but it depends on how sensitive your LO is.)
Right now the sensitivity is suspected, but not confirmed by DS's doctor. His signs are: gassy, trouble with naptime/bedtime (extra fussy-hard to settle-wakes a lot), spits up on occasion when burping and his burps smell like vomit frequently, poops VERY frequently during the day and it is usually loose, almost pasty poops that immediately cause a rash; his diaper rash is bumpy, almost like little blisters and he has had a rash on the rest of his body, but not always (that looks like little bumps). He didnt' have any diaper rash until he started whole milk at 1 year.
For now I am switching him to soy. LO's dad and I are separated and in the process of getting a divorce more many reasons. He is not the easiest person to work with and either will disregard what I say, not think it's really important, or roll his eyes at me like I am stupid (among other things). I posted this originally on the SP board and just copied and pasted here.
Thanks for the information! I will definately check out the website-hopefully STBXH will understand that this is what is best for LO and not do the opposite to try to mess with me (not unheard of with him).
My youngest (15 months) has dairy issues. Not sure yet if it's an allergy or sensitivity - but she absolutely can't consume any dairy without her skin going crazy w/ eczema. I actually am not a fan of soy milk b/c of the phytoestrogens. And 40% of kids w/ dairy issues also have soy issues according to our gastro. We switched to Coconut milk. It's actually really healthy and has a decent amount of fat (which they need for developmental reasons at this age.)
I also started giving my daughter an Omega-3 supplement each day. It's a liquid and she takes 1ml straight. She actually really likes it so we have no issues w/ her taking it. I try to help her get the Omega-3 she may be missing in her diet.
Going dairy free has been fairly easy. Just read labels. Dairy sneaks into a whole lot of things. But most packaging is very well labeled to indicate if it's an ingredient. We also do coconut milk yogurt. DD was not a fan of soy cheese - but you can try that as well as a substitute.
