My DH went back to work on Monday and I was terrified. I made it through the first day but naptime was pretty much a nightmare. Second day nap time went more smoothly and I even had time to pick up the living room and fold two loads of laundry. Today is the third day. Naptime was way easier, I picked up the house/toys, ran a load of laundry, loaded the dishwasher and swept the kitchen and living room.
I am able to manage more and more each day and it doesn't seem hopeless. The one thing I haven't been able to figure out is when/how to shower. So far I've been showering when DH gets home from work, but I feel stinky all day. What do you mamas do?
Re: 3rd day home alone with 2u2!
I was home alone with my 2 while on maternity leave and DH had a trip out of town. The first day I got up early and showered (around 5 am after I put DD2 back to sleep after a feeding). The next day I showered while both were awake and took them both in the bathroom with me. DD1 played with my "medicine drawer" (we've taken all of the medicine out right now and she played with bandaids, etc...) DD1 isn't into tv so I didn't have much choice since I needed to get out of the house that morning.
The other option I have is to shower when DD1 is taking her nap in the early afternoon, I'll just take DD2 into the bathroom with me in her bouncy seat.
I'm now worried about how I'm going to get ready when DH is out of town now that I'm back at work! We have to be out of the house by 7:15, so I'm guessing I'll be getting up crazy early to shower!
It will get easier as you go along. But I also think it will be harder too when the younger one is older and not just a blob. My DS sits in his bouncer while I give DD bath, read and put her to bed or nap.
I have had it pretty easy and have found the adjustment to be pretty smooth. I had a really tough older DD (so my MIL says as I dont remember and I must have blocked that out).
My husband is gone and will not be home for another few weeks. So I have done everything on my own without any "here just hold the baby" when he gets home. You can do it!!
Give yourself credit for getting a few things done each day. Small accomplishments are worth so much!
I don't have two yet, but since my son was 2 weeks old, I have always gotten up before my husband in the morning and showered before he leaves for work. I get up at about 6:15am every weekday
I NEED my shower in the morning - this is the best way for me to guarantee that I get it!
