Is it worth buying a maternity coat for the winter? I'm having the darndest time finding one I can afford, but a lot of the non-maternity ones just won't fit correctly.

Depends on where you live. I like in the mountains of Maine. We get a lot of snow and gets pretty cold. I am going to be investing in one. But if you don't live someplace cold and snowy it may not be worth it.

This. I got one really cheap at Target last pregnancy. It was not particularly warm, but I also found my body temperature ran a lot hotter than normal, especially later in pregnancy, so it was better to layer than have a giant down thing, at least for me.
I'm actually looking at this one from Motherhood Maternity. It's a bit pricey and the only MM in the state is almost 3 hours away. But when I say it is gets cold and snowy, I mean we usually have 3-4 ft. left at the end of winter to melt (not counting any that may have melted on a rare warm week) and typically right around 0 degrees most the winter. Anything close to 20 or 30 is considered a heat wave.
So hoping this will be a warm coat. I have a hard time staying warm outside. I usually go with LL Bean but they don't make maternity coats and to go up a size would have sleeves too long.

I'm also from up in Maine and I was able to pick up a wicked cute one from target for about $45, its a sweatshirt material that has a draw string at the bottom and I do baby wearing so next spring I can do what I did with Jack and put him in a carrier then zip the jack around him, they also make nice layering jacket even not pregnant.

I've seen that coat and sadly, it is not that warm. I don't even think it's lined with much of anything.

I saw that on their website. Does not look warm enough for the part of the state where I live.

I fully plan on using one of DH's coats. It might not look all that good, but it'll be warm and it'll fit, and anyone who cares can bite me. I'm not buying a coat that I'm only going to be able to use for one season.
Holy cow! Even the one from MM is out of my budget. That other one will not be happening. I'll just have to freeze first.
Sad that you said the one I liked doesn't look warm. I haven't been to that part of the state to even look yet. I'm hoping that as winter gets closer, there will be a bit more of a selection. Or I will luck out and find one at Goodwill.
I'd go with just a bigger jacket like from WM, but cannot stand when the sleeves are way too long.

You can layer your a$$ off though . Maybe get the MM one in a larger size and then invest in a fleece and some long underwear! I have been looking online for a cheaper version for you and all I found was one twice the price made in Canada! It's a shame because the idea is genius.

lol. I may just have to. At least this year I know that my work position doesn't have me outside for 6-7 recess duties a day. So I shouldn't have to worry about being cold too much this winter.
I've been checking ebay but all of those are the same price as brand new coats. I should e-mail LL Bean and inform them that they need to start making maternity coats. lol

I just bought one from Old Navy during their 30% off sale. It ended up being I think $55. It's not perfect, but it will do, and it can get really cold in Maryland in the winters. It's not uncommon to be in the teens or less, and I don't think layering is going to cut it then.

lol. I think it is funny how everyone's definition of cold/hot is different depending on where they live. My mom is from MD and we lived there just outside Balitmore for about 4 years when I was a kid. I was never once cold. To me, temps in the teens, is actually fairly warm for winter. Layering is actually the better bet for staying warm. Just a pain in the butt.
I have a number of cousins who live in MD. I have one on FB who I like to pick on and vice versa. In the winter, I give her a hard time for complaining about snow and cold and in the summer she does the same to me when I complain about the heat.

I have not found anything I liked yet either. The best one I've tried on is the one from MM that Countrygirl posted, but even that I wasn't 100% sold on.
It is SUPER cold with freezing winds here in the winter and I'm still not sure what to do.
I'm def getting one. I live right outside of Buffalo and it's already getting really cold!!! As cute as some of the peacoats are, they're not as practical for the weather here and I wear scrubs to work instead of dress clothes.
I like this one from Motherhood
Me (33). DH (37). DD (2.2012). MCs x4. After 4 years & 7 months, due 4.2018!
Thanks for this! I have a coupon for MM for the end of October and if they don't have any coats left in my size I may have to get this in purple. I live on Lake Michigan so I definately need a warm coat.

That was the one I thought I was going to love, but when I tried it on the belly was just really big and hanging off of me and the whole thing kind of swam on me. I'm short though, so that might have something to do with it. It also is nowhere near as warm as my LL Bean down coat. Maybe when I get more of a bump I'll try it again.
You just made my entire day! I don't know why I never thought to check WM. Me, who is even registered there! I'm not a huge fan of bubble coats but it doesn't look too bubbly. And for that price? Can't be too picky when broke. This one I can afford! And its pink!

I have seen something like this in down and if you can find it, it would be great for you since it can convert to non-maternity later or be used to wear the baby: https://www.japaneseweekend.com/mamacoat-trade-p/05-7036-092blk-maternity-coats.htm. Unfortunately, it's spendy.
