Even before pregnancy hormones, I've been all about family traditions. We may be Christian, but that Fiddler on the Roof song fits well - we've got one for everything under the sun. So, what are your family traditions surrounding babies? Are you creating a new one?
Mine are:
1. Family cradle that every infant has slept in or taken at least one nap in since the turn of the last century.
2. Christening gown for girls that has been passed down for 4 or 5 generations.
A new tradition we are creating is based on a wedding/anniversary tradition. We've got some old trick champagne flutes that have been used for wedding toasts for 4 generations. We are going to bring them to the hospital to toast baby when she arrives!
Re: Family Traditions with Babies
Before we got married I remember my MIL saying something about having a christening gown that's been handed down. She hasn't mentioned it since then, if she does have one I'll definitely use it.
Otherwise, I can't really think of any baby-related traditions.

It's a bit new but the bassett that I slept in my son will too. My grandmother made the skirting for it and she is no longer with us so it's extra special to me. Not sure if my kids will want to us it for their kids but I'm very excited to get the chance.
My uncle tried to ruin it by saying it's not safe since it's so old. Yes standards have changed but this is not unsafe, I'm not stupid. I don't plan on using it long, just a few moths, once he starts turning over he's in the crib.
Oh, I did remember one that we will try out. DH and I were both blankey-loving kids and both of our parents kept ours. If LO loves his blanket like we did, we'll probably end up trying to have a quilt made out of all of them and passing it down to his children one day, or something. I don't know, haven't thought it all the way through yet.
